There’s nothing quite as annoying as working very hard to clean your replacement windows, only to find there are streaks when the sun shines on them at certain angles. If you have invested in new windows, you want to enjoy the view, not streaks, so here are some tips on how to clean windows and keep them streak free.

.) Don’t use a product that creates a lot of suds. Soapy water leaves residue on glass that is hard to remove, thereby leaving streaks and residue behind.

.) Vinegar is one of the best, and most inexpensive glass cleaners around. Simply mix a solution with half vinegar and half water, pour in a spray bottle and you’re ready to go.

.) Whether you use vinegar or another cleaning solution, if you mix it with tap water it could cause streaks. Water from your faucet, especially if it is hard, contains minerals and other microscopic materials that get left behind on the glass. Use distilled water for the best streak-free results.

.) Don’t use paper towels. Some people have a hard time letting go of the roll, but you’ll be glad you did. Try a squeegee, or you’ll have the best luck with a wadded up sheet of newspaper.

.) Finish it off with a microfiber cloth. A soft, dry cloth will remove any final spots and streaks, giving your windows a perfect shine.
